After CBSE Class 10th: What to Do, Which Stream to Choose?

Once students clear Class 10th board exam, they face dilemma of which stream or what subjects to choose for Class 12th. Choosing the right stream after Class 10th is important, as it will affect all the future education and career opportunities available to a student later on.

Here are the key streams CBSE Class 10th students can opt for:

  • Science Stream with Mathematics, Biology, Computer or Bio-Math:Science with Mathematics leads to engineering courses and B.Sc in any Science subject. Science with Biology can lead to medical courses such as MBBS, BAMS or BHMS, B.Sc in Biology or Chemistry, paramedical courses like nursing or allied courses like B.Pharma.
  • Commerce Stream:CBSE Class X students, who opt for Commerce, have to study two compulsory courses – Business Studies, and Accountancy; and two optional courses such as Math, Economics, Statistics, History, Geography, Political Science and other subjects which may be available at your school. After Class 12th, they can go for B.Com, BBA, BBM, BMS, and professional courses like CA, CFA, ICWA, CFP etc.
  • Arts or Humanities Stream:Arts lead to several creative courses after college while Humanities courses lead to courses in Geography, Political Science, Literature, History etc. – each of which lead to numerous lucrative careers.

Apart from regular courses, there are employment-centric vocational or professional courses too that one can opt for after Class 10th. Generally, these courses have affordable fees and have relatively short duration.Polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) offer various such courses.
